چکیده

Abstract We assess the performance of thermal ion imaging (TII) technique as conceived for Swarm Earth Explorer satellites. Analysis, simulation, and laboratory testing performed prior to flight provided estimates systematic random error sources electric field instrument’s vector drift, field, kinetic temperature measurements. An end-to-end instrument simulator, consisting models TIIs on a prototypical satellite orbiting with ionospheric plasma, magnetic inputs, was used generate TII sensor data (level 0 data). Neural Network Based Correction of Infrared Thermal Imager for Short Distance Measurement

− Based on the formula of image radiation, the influence of distance on the temperature measurement accuracy using IR thermal imager is analyzed in theory. Then an algorithm for correction based on neural network is proposed. The error caused by the difference between measuring distance and calibration distance is reduced.

Analysis of ground - based differential imager performance

In the context of extrasolar planet direct detection, we evaluated the performance of differential imaging with ground-based telescopes. This study was carried out in the framework of the VLT-Planet Finder project and is further extended to the case of Extremely Large Telescopes. Our analysis is providing critical specifications for future instruments mostly in terms of phase aberrations but al...

Driver Performance Measurement To Support Thermal System Development

The Driver’s Vision Enhancer (DVE) program is providing thermal imaging systems to enlarge the driving envelope for the community of military wheeled and tracked vehicles. The DVE provides the driver with thermal images of the forward scene under night and adverse day conditions. During the DVE development program, several questions emerged that required performance-based data to resolve. A mul...

NASA Goddard's LiDAR, Hyperspectral and Thermal (G-LiHT) Airborne Imager

The combination of LiDAR and optical remotely sensed data provides unique information about ecosystem structure and function. Here, we describe the development, validation and application of a new airborne system that integrates commercial off the shelf LiDAR hyperspectral and thermal components in a compact, lightweight and portable system. Goddard’s LiDAR, Hyperspectral and Thermal (G-LiHT) a...

UNCLASSIFIED UNCLASSIFIED Liquid Crystal Uncooled Thermal Imager Development

An uncooled thermal imager is being developed based on a liquid crystal transducer. The liquid crystal transducer changes a long-wavelength infrared scene into a visible image as opposed to an electric signal in microbolometers. This approach has the potential for making a more flexible thermal sensor. One objective is to develop imager technology scalable to large formats (tens of megapixels) ...
